Homeless Prevention

There are 4,000 youth who experience homelessness in Los Angeles on any given night. If you or a friend needs help, we know fantastic organisations out there that will do everything they can to ensure you’re in safe, sheltered accommodation.

The Right Way Foundation

The Rightway foundation helps transition-age foster youth get and keep good jobs and stable housing.

ILP Online - Independent Living Program for Los Angeles County 

This website provides details about independent living programs and services in LA County that youth about to be 18 or over 18 years old can apply for if they are in foster care or were previously in foster care. Click here for information on independent living programs, the living locations, and how many vacancies there are. 

Education and Training

A record number of underrepresented youth were admitted to the University of California in 2023, we want this number to continue to rise, giving foster youth the opportunities to go to a university and not have to worry about how they are going to get by. The below organisations are able to provide additional training and support.

Child Welfare Information Gateway is a connection to trusted resources on the child welfare continuum. We provide publications, research, and learning tools selected by experts to support thriving children, youth, families, and communities.

The Chafee Education and Training Voucher (ETV) program provides resources specifically to meet the educational and training needs of eligible current or former foster youth.

Workforce Development and Opportunities

When foster youth receive opportunities and support, their chances of earning a living wage increased from 20% to 80%. At Beyond Our Kin, we provide Workforce Development and have partnerships with organisations who are now offering internships and opening up the doors for future opportunities.

Los Angeles Urban League has served as a powerful advocate for African-Americans and other minorities by ensuring our communities have access to careers with living wages, opportunities to start and grow businesses, and clear pathways to personal and professional growth.
